Report: Bears to hire Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator

According to several reports, Chicago Bears are set to hire 28-year-old Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator. Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs was the first to report that the former Denver Broncos Tight Ends coach would join Ben Johnson’s coaching team.

He becomes the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL.

Declan has earned the last two years as Denver’s Tight Ends coach at Sean Payton’s broncos staff. Before that he worked as an offensive assistant for New Orleans Saints from 2019 to 2022, and before that he was an offensive student assistant for the University of Iowa from 2016 to 2018.

Declan’s new offensive staff includes offensive passing game coordinator/wide receiver coach Antwaan Randle El and Quarterback coach JT Barrett.

While in New Orleans, he worked with the new Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who had been Saints’ head coach for the past three seasons.

Some fans will undoubtedly question Johnson hiring such a young offensive coordinator, but if a safe Hall of Fame coach like Sean Payton thought enough about Doyle to hire him twice, that’s good enough for me.

“Declan Doyle was loved inside the broncos building,” says DNVR beat Reporter Zac Stevens. “A bright young coach who gets a promotion to move to Chicago.”
