Brathwaite – The West Indies had to be ‘brave’ on the field where ‘you are going out’

West Indian Captain Kraigg Brathwaite said baters should be brave and rely on their plans to succeed on the difficult trajectories of Multan after they won the second of two tests to smooth out the series and also create a little bit of history. This 120 race victory was their first in Pakistan for 34 years.

Brathwaite led by a good example. After being part of a collapse that left West Indies 38 for 7 in the first place, he chose a far more aggressive approach in the second. In fact, he reached his fastest fifties in tests, deliberately taking chances against the Pakistani spinners. This approach gave the West Indies a 254 lead, and it turned out to be more than enough.

“Both test matches were the course difficult to hit, and we knew that, as I said, I just wanted us to be brave that we did all the plans we have to go there and execute them as best as possible , for whatever is a ball with your name on this track, “Brathwaite told journalists after the second test in Multan on Monday.

“I mean, it was a difficult course to hit, so it was good to see the confidence we did and you know very proudly of this team.

“It was just for Batsmen to be brave you know. I mean like Batsmen that I said everyone wants their plans. Be brave in whatever you want to do as Batsmen,” Brathwaite said of the West Indies strategy. “Bowling-wise brings the batsmen as much as possible and there will be 20 balls that you will get 20 wickets, because as I said, the course is a difficult course, so there is no extra guess.

Brathwaite maintained that the course was “very, very difficult” but had no complaints about PCBs preparing spinning tracks.

“I will say that Pakistan could prepare the track as they will. What I will say is that Batsman will not be on average high on these lanes. You would be on average 15-20 and it is clear that the spinners will Complete well.

“Jomel was unique. To see how he went to his bowling and the pressure he built from from the ball one I mean it was amazing,” said Brathwaite.

Warrican also made a decisive contribution to the bat, ending undefeated at 36 in the first innings, with his 68-race stand for the last wicket with Gudakesh Motie the key to reviving the West Indies from being 38 for 7 after they won thrown and chose to bat.

“With the bat you can’t count him out, I also think he did a fantastic job with the bat. But bowling -wise I know he has worked hard over the years. He’s been in and out of the team but it’s good to See him got the chance and he grabbed it, very very proud of him, he was unique.

West India’s triumph in Multan came almost exactly one year after Gabba 2024, and Brathwaite said it showed their ability to adapt to different conditions.

“It’s a very important victory for us, it just shows that we can get it done in all conditions when we first think and always have a plan,” he said. “It’s right up there with some great test victories because coming here and playing here in Pakistan, it’s never easy to win a test match you know, so it’s great to win.”
