Does Mackinac Bridge cross today? Avoid metal grids during warning of high wind

St. IGNACE, MI – MACKINAC BRIDGE is under a high wind warning today, which means that part of the bridge cannot be able to provide further driving, officials said.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority is to instruct motorists to use the exterior lane, which allows them to avoid driving on the metal grille on the suspended part of the bridge as the wind whips through the grids.

Wind in the Sound today is 20 to 34 km / h, the authority said.

Drivers are instructed to reduce their speed to a maximum of 20 km / h, turn on their flashes and remain in the outside lane.

Vehicles that are particularly vulnerable to high winds include pickup trucks with campers, motor houses, vehicles pulling trailers and closed semi-truck trailers, the authority said.

The authority monitors wind speeds at various points along the suspension bridge. Additional steps are implemented if conditions worsen.

Drivers planning to cross the bridge must set to AM Radio 530 or 1610 for updates.
