Boston, MA shakes from earthquake from NH, Maine Monday – NBC Boston

The Boston area shook from a rare but smaller earthquake on Monday morning.

The US Geological Survey assessed the shaking as a size 3.8downgraded from the original size of 4.1. It was centered on the coast of New Hampshire and Maine in York Harbor, about 12 miles underground.

While not destructive and rather common in areas with more seismic activity such as California, it is relatively large for the area.

Shaking was felt throughout the region – as far away as New Haven, Connecticut and Albany, New York, according to Replies sent to the US geological study.

If you felt the earthquake, you can report it to the USGS here.

Last year, the Boston area felt shaking from an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude centered in New Jersey.
