Patrick Mahomes is third qb to start five Super Bowls, Jalen Hurts is 22. To start two

It’s hard to get to the Super Bowl. Just ask Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, who came short again this season. Warren Moon and Dan Fouts are the Hall of Famers and never reached it. Dan Marino, Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers started each. The big quarterbacks of all time have not managed to reach the Super Bowl, or been there once and never reached.

So it’s noteworthy that at the Super Bowl Lix, Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts start against each other in the Super Bowl for the second time. And especially remarkable that Mahomes starts his fifth Super Bowl – and he is only 29 years old.

Mahomes has joined a real elite company, giving John Elway the second most Super Bowl starter with five. Only Tom Brady, with 10 Super Bowl starter, has several.

And Hurts, who already starts his second Super Bowl, is also impressive. He is the 22nd Quarterback coming to the Super Bowl twice.

Quarterbacks with four Super Bowl starter are all in the Hall of Fame: Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning and Jim Kelly.

The three Super Bowl starter quarterbackers are Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Bob Griese, Kurt Warner and Fran Tarkenton, plus Ben Roethlisberger, which will be selected for Hall of Fame when he is justified.

Quarterbacks Hurts joins the two starting clubs is Bart Starr, Jim Plunkett, Eli Manning, Len Dawson, Joe Theismann, Brett Favre, Russell Wilson and Craig Morton.

Starting several quarterbacks is a great achievement that some very big quarterbacks have not been able to achieve.
