I was about to start elsewhere, but here are some news off the ground, thanks to the press association:

An area outside Etihad Stadium was evacuated after a merchandise -stand burned guy in front of Manchester City’s Champions League match against Club Brugge. Supporters had gathered outside the main reception for a presentation of the city’s January signings. The event was suspended when Flames grabbed the position and stewards moved fans away before the fire department arrived on stage. It is unknown at this time whether the incident will affect the planned kick-off time at. 20.00. “

Preamble

When Europe’s big clubs that are desperate to produce artificial excitement for the sake of even more folding green, put heads together and somehow came with “the Swiss model”, it seems fair to speculate that they had neither in Thoughts Manchester City needs a win on the last match day to avoid early elimination. And yet we are here, so we are, reminded once again that when good people do good things with good intentions, good results are inevitable. Thanks, guys! Football is the winner!

It has been a miserable half -season or so for the city, their collapse of their collapse hardly credible and completely unprecedented. But they have improved a little in recent weeks, a more transitional style along with the acquisition of Omar Marmoush and returns to the form of the Phil foot, helping to rejuvenate a tired side.

However, Marmoush is not eligible tonight and Club Brugge is no mug. They sit 20. In the table, three points above the city, after beating villa and sporting, drawn with Juve and competing well against Milan, even after going down to 10. The match, in October, was the last time they were was beaten, a period in which city has suffered 10 losses – two of them to Tottenham!

And Brugge has their own things going on. If they avoid defeat tonight, they move into the last 32 playoffs and if there is a winner in Stuttgart V PSG game, they progress regardless. But if this game, Sporting against Bologna and Juventus against Benfica is feature, they are eliminated if they lose, which means they will be on it tonight and then some.

Of course, the likelihood of the city finding a way – is actually the whole rigmarole in this format in place partly to guarantee that it will happen – and yet …

Kick-off: 20:00 GMT
