Officials urge residents to evacuate as big fire threatens home in Franklin County

Update: Franklin County officials have stated that fire from 1 p.m. 17.45 spans at least 50 hectares.

Officials say the Forestry Department and local fire agencies work hard to fight this brand and protect both life and property the best they can.

“We are unable to update at an inclusion level at this time; it is still a very active, big scene and firefighters are making progress,” said Franklin County officials.

BEFORE: A large fire has caused a code red message to all residents within a 5-mile radius from the intersection of Wades Gap and Webster Corner Roads.

Local first responding agencies encourage people to maintain their distance for their safety and for open availability of units responding to the fire.

Officials say that more homes and land are in the affected area.

A shelter will be created in Monte Vista Church of the Brethren at 25 Wades Gap Road for those who need help.

“Franklin County Public Safety asks all residents of Wades Gap over Webster Corner Road to evacuate at this time,” officials said.
