Nearly 70,000 Ambien pills hidden in yarn were seized in Washington Dulles International Airport.

Authorities say US Customs and Border Protection Agents confiscated the pills on January 16 during a routine inspection of a shipment of yarn from India. The first discovery was made in December.

Officials say that nearly 70,000 Zolpidem -Tartrate pills, the generic name of the fabric, were found inside 96 rolls of black yarn that was flushed around pink pipes on an air load storage at the airport.

The pills weigh 60 pounds and are appreciated at about $ 33,000.

“This is a very bold attempt to smuggle a significant amount of prescription medicine in the United States, but this creative hiding method could not fool customs and border protection officers,” said Christine Waugh, CBP’s area’s Port Director of the Port of Washington area, DC in a statement. “CBP officers are obliged to protect the public by capturing illegal and potentially dangerous products arriving at our country’s entrance ports every day.”
