Golden State defeats OKC Thunder Despite Strong Gilgeous-Alexander-Performance

Looking to continue his good race of the recent game, Oklahoma City Thunder traveled to the West Coast to meet the Golden State Warriors. Warriors had different plans and went away with a 116-109 victory.

The story of the first half, like many other Thunder-Matchups, was in the hands of star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He announced 21 points in the first quarter and ended with 31 at the end of half.

OKC led 34-20 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a warm stretch from Gilgeous-Alexander, where it looked like he couldn’t miss. He did most of the hard work at the offensive end, but OKC’s defense also stood its earth.

Limiting Golden State -Super Star Steph Curry was a weight of Oklahoma City, who worked to some extent. He scored four in the first half and 21 throughout the game, walking 6-for-15 off the field and came alive in the fourth quarter. Curry only made a field goal in the first half. It was Andrew Wiggins who would step up for the Golden State, who scored 15 first half points and ended with 27 at the end of the game.

From the time Gilgeous-Alexander was on the bench to the time he entered the game at the 5: 27 mark in the second quarter, Golden State narrowed his deficit to six points. As soon as it happened, Thunder Star returned. He scored 10 points in the last five minute stretch to give Thunder a 58-48 lead.

The early stages of the third quarter did not go in favor of Thunder. Despite being offensive rebound after offensive rebound with good shooting trials sprinkled in these sequences, OKC couldn’t get the ball in the hanger. Guard Jalen Williams also secured his fourth mistake in the game and is guarding Lu Dort his third.

This lid on the hanger was also applied to Gilgeous-Alexander. He missed his first four shooting attempts as Warriors increased their defensive intensity. Golden State quickly got the score to 63-64 with 8:03 to play in the third quarter. They would later take the lead in the quarter.

OKC’s three-point shooting performance against Warriors despite the final result was not good enough. They ended 9-for-39 from the perimeter despite frequently good appearance. Maybe the only big mistake in the Thunder violation this season was in some ways damage to OKC.

Gilgeous-Alexander quickly jumped back after not scoring in the first six minutes of the quarter. He scored 12 in the back half of it to increase his scoring context to 43, slowly waved against his career height of 54. He ended with 52 at night and just got two points shy.

Quality bench minutes from Brandin Podziemski, with continuous good game from Wiggins and Curry, left these two teams, even at 84 points entering the fourth quarter.

Rebounding efforts from Center Isaiah Hartenstein would prove to be very effective down this game. In total he ended the night with 18 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. Hartenstein did not have his best offensive performance and ended with four points on 2-for-10 shooting. However, his presence felt on the glass.

The forbidden lid on the edge slid back to Oklahoma City with the fourth quarter that subsides, especially from the perimeter. Despite the open look for open look, shots just wouldn’t fall. Golden State took advantage of these misses, especially with curry on the bench.

Golden State’s shooting down the stretch couldn’t have been better despite the tight OKC defense. Dennis Schroder, Podziemski and tips Kyle Anderson hit all the clutches and disputed middle buckets, all of which came at the end of the shooting clock. This kept the Warrior lead about six points.

Late in the fourth quarter, Warriors simply made more shots. Thunder couldn’t get a stop, and regardless of the coverage or time back on the shooting clock, Golden State caused his shots to fall. There was simply not much Oklahoma City could do to prevent them from falling, which led to its ninth loss of the season.

Oklahoma City’s next test is against Sacramento Kings on the road at. 19:00 CT Saturday, February 1st.
