Mick Jagger, 81, Issuing a deep statement after the death of ‘wonderful’ ex-boyfriend Marianne Faithfull

Sir Mick Jagger has paid an emotional tribute to his ex -girlfriend and the 1960s music icon Marianne Faithfull, who has died at the age of 78.

The Rolling Stones frontman shared his grief over social media after the announcement of Faithfull’s death in London on Thursday.


“I’m so sad to hear about the death of Marianne Faithfull,” Jagger wrote on Instagram. “She was so much a part of my life so long.”

The 81-year-old rock legend added: “She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered.”

Faithfull’s death was confirmed by her family in a statement that said she “died peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family”.

The singer and actress dating Jagger from 1966 to 1970, first rose to fame as a teenager with the Jagger-Pen Hit as tears pass by.

Jagger’s tribute on social media was accompanied by a number of vintage photographs of the couple from their time together in the 1960s.

His Rolling Stones -bandmates also shared their condolance, with Keith Richards, who released a recent photo of himself with faithful.

“My heartfelt compassion with Marianne’s family! I am so sad and will miss her !!” Richards wrote on Instagram and showed a photo of the couple sharing a drink together.

Ronnie Wood, who joined The Stones after faithful and Jagger’s relationship was completed, sent a photo of himself with Richards and faithfully in a studio, simply wrote, “Goodbye dear Marianne.”

The tribute highlighted the sustained connection between faithful and the band, which she maintained friendships long after her romantic relationship with Jagger ended.

Faithfull and Jagger’s relationship defined an era of British music in the 1960s, beginning when she was discovered by Rolling Stones Manager Andrew Loog Oldham in 1964.

Their romance flourished in 1966 after Jagger’s Split from model Chrissie Shrimpton, which led to a very published relationship that lasted until 1970.

During their time together, the faithful sister Morphine wrote with Jagger and Richards for the Rolling Stones’ album from 1971 Sticky Fingers.

In recent years, Faithfull had enjoyed a resurgence and was admired by modern artists, including Kate Moss and Courtney Love.
