Food and Drug Administration Just raised revelation level of Lay’s classic potato chips for the highest risk classification.

Frito Lay issued a recall On December 16 through the FDA for over 6,000 bags of Lay’s classic potato chips that contained “non -declared milk.”

According to The first recall reportsaid the FDA “those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk the risk of a serious or life -threatening allergic reaction if they consumed the recalled product.”

On Monday, the FDA upgraded the withdrawal to their highest classification – Class 1 – which is identified as “a situation where there is a reasonable likelihood that the use of or exposure to a violation of the product will cause serious negative health consequences or death,” per the administration’s website.

Said Frito-Lay in a statement“This is not a new recall or a change of what was previously announced,” the statement reads. “The recall was executed in December in full cooperation with the FDA when the problem was identified. The recall was limited to two states and the revocation of the product has been removed from the market.

The specifically recalled chips were: 13 ounces of Lay’s classic potato chips with UPC on 28400 31041, a “guaranteed fresh” date on February 11, 2025 and a production code of either 6462307xx or 6463307xx. The batch was distributed in Washington and Oregon, and the chips were available for purchase as soon as November 3, 2024.

What is not — declared milk?

Non -declared milk refers to milk present in a food product but was not erected in the ingredients or label. This can happen when something is labeled with wrong label or a labeling error. It can also be done via cross contamination that can occur during treatment.

Milk is one of FDA’s “Big 9” Food allergens. For those who are allergic to it, milk consumption can lead to sudden, serious and potentially life -threatening allergic reactions such as hives, emissions, tingling or swelling of lips, mouth, face, tongue or throat, vomiting and/or diarrhea, cramps, coughing or breathing, dizziness or ease, difficulty breathing or falling in blood pressure.

What should you do if you have the recalled chips?

People who may have an allergy or sensitivity to milk should not consume the product, the alarm says.

Frito-Lay encourages people who may have the recalled chips to throw them right away.
