Early life

He was born in California on January 30, 1930, and Gen was verbal in the army after lying around his age of 16. After four and a half years on the field, he moved back to California.

He decided to pursue a career in acting after a briefly living in New York and studying journalism. He was a member of Pasadena Playhouse, where he became close friends with other beginner Dustin Hoffman, even though they were seen as outsiders by a majority of their cohort.

From 1956 to 1986, Gene married Faye Maltese, whom he welcomed son Christopher and daughter Elizabeth and Leslie. Not much is known about the three, even though they have been photographed at a few events with their father.

In 1991 he tied the knot with the classic pianist Betsy Arakawa, who is 30 years his junior. The couple lives in Santa Fe and remained an active part of society for many years.

Contemporary

Gene’s last movie role was the 2004s Welcome to MooseportAnd announced shortly after he intended to retire from acting. His last official public performance was in 2007 and he is rarely looked out and around.

He turned attention to writing after abandoning his acting career, and punished three historical fiction novels with underwater archaeologist Daniel Lenihan and two solo efforts in 2011 and 2013.
