Orlando Magic aims to fix late games when the team leads west

Orlando, Fla. – Of the 34 remaining regular seasonal matches, and how many autumn period could bring, Orlando Magic Picture a lot of situations similar to Monday night in Miami.

Up 12 points on Miami Heat with six minutes to play in their building, the magic seemed well on its way to a signature benefit. But Orlando’s advantage slid down the stretch and eventually fell with double overtime to the hosts.

Had the magic held on, they would have secured the season series and got tiebreaker over their I-division, rivals in the state. Instead, they shared their four meetings on two one page.

With the fresh on their minds, Magic’s Wednesday practice on the Adventhealth Training Center was last before a five-game West Coast Swing Tips from Thursday night in Portland-a heavy focus on relieving their recent endgame.

“We got the chance to run up and down a little, just review some late game scenarios where we’re kind of fighting right now to end games,” Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said after the session. “We might turn the ball over or (we) move a little too fast, so just work on it and try to see what we can get and just be patient.”

Added Caldwell-Pope: “At the end of games accelerate hold us. We are doing acting that is not there or we are trying to force something instead of taking an open shot or open game there is there. I think, We just have to be patient, slow down and try to get a shot every time down on the floor.

Using heat loss as an example, the magic was up 103-91 with 6:28 to play in the fourth quarter. From there through the last buzz after the second overtime period, Magic shot 7-25 from the field, missed 10 of their 11 triangles and had six revenue for only four assists when their offense was stopped.

“Our distance,” said Paolo Banchero from the third year when asked where he felt that Orlando hopes to improve in the closure of situations. “Finding out where people should be at the right time, and then just get on the same page (with our) communication about what we’re trying to run (and) be intentional with what we’re trying to get in possession.

Meanwhile, when Magic fought, Miami helped 12 of their 14 made field dimensions, drilled 5-of-11-three-point attempts and turned the ball only four times. After leading as many as 14 points earlier in the quarter, it was just the second time in 20 games this year that Orlando has led double in the last 12 minutes and continued to lose.

The only other instance? Orlando led the same heat team with 17 points less than seven minutes into the meeting on December 26 and started the fourth quarter up 10 before Miami’s late comeback victory. Included this result and Monday’s, the magic has lost 12 of their last 17 matches.

Seven of the last 17 games have entered the “Clutch” scenarios, with the scoring being within five points in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime. The magic is 12-8 in such competitions in general, but only 3-4 during the last month with long-term matches.

Magical coach Jamahl Mosley said his team’s practice on Wednesday had “a great competition for it.” Then, as two of his team’s most important players, he mentioned the importance of their late game performance.

“We want to be in many late games,” said the fourth year coach. “The United States that understands what we are going to do in these moments will be very important. I thought it was a very good practice for it.”

When Caldwell-Pope, a 12-year-old veteran who has been in five changing rooms around the NBA, was asked about the properties that teams that go through luller and escape them, share, he said, “Together I will say. Just to stay together no.

The first chance Orlando could have to see if they have solved their late game problems that could come out west. The magic will visit Portland, Utah, Golden State, Sacramento and Denver for a stretch of five matches in eight days. Although he has seen only three of the five opponents so far, Orlando is 0-3 in these games-as all in the aforementioned recent 17 game.

“Just have to be really close and together,” Banchero said. “‘Of course would like to win all five, but just try to improve during the trip.”
