NJ School Delayed openings for icy roads – Fri, 31 January

The risk of some icy spots at the start of a rainy day on Friday has led to some districts delaying the school’s start.

Precipitation should be rain for the entire state starting in the early morning hours, according to New Jersey 101.5 Chief Meteotologist Dan Zarrow. However, the soil and the air can be cold enough at the beginning to support a wintry mix to the north and west.

“The biggest concern is for freezing rain – remember, that is, liquid rain freezing by contact with a cold surface, creating a very smooth situation,” Zarrow said.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 1 p.m.

Cold so calm

Pockets of Gusty Vind are possible in heavy rainwear on Friday afternoon, but the weather shakes down the first weekend of February.

Heaven should quickly clear to the sunshine on Saturday morning, with a cool breeze blowing out of the northwest.

High temperatures forecast are in the lower 40s – rather typical in early February.
