Tuberculosis -Sag identified on Ohio High School

Whitehall, Ohio (WKRC) – a case of tuberculosis (TB) was confirmed at a high school in Ohio.

According to WBNS, Public health officials in Columbus were notified of a tuberculosis case at Whitehall-Yearling High School.

The agency told journalists with WBNs that it works with the school district’s officials to complete contact tracking and confirmed that those who were potentially in contact with the individual will be notified and offered tests at no cost.

WBNs did not receive an answer as it reached the Whitehall City Schools.

According to Cleveland ClinicTuberculosis “is an infectious disease that can cause infection in your lungs or other tissues. It often affects your lungs, but it can also affect other organs such as your spine, brain or kidneys.”

Symptoms of active TB may be one of the following according to the clinic:

  • Bad cough (lasts longer than two weeks)
  • Coughing up blood or sputum (mucus)

“If you have been exposed to TB, talk to your healthcare provider right away. They can help you make a decision to be tested. This decision is more important if you have developed any symptoms of illness that may mean you ‘re infectious.
