He added that he will take his “chucktoddcast” with him and that it will soon have a “new home”. He said on the podcast on Friday that his exit from NBC happened “a little earlier than originally planned.”

But he also stated that he is planning to launch a new venture, one that can connect national news to local news.

“In my core, I’m an entrepreneur – I spent my first 15 years working professionally for the company that started the political newsletter that dominates today,” Todd said, referring to his time at the National Journal where he Created the hotline newsletter, a predecessor for them like Politico Playbook and Punchbowl News. “And this is a mature moment. The only way to solve this information eco -system is to stop whining about the different ways the social media companies manipulate things and instead roll our collective sleeves and start with locals. National media cannot win confidence back without having a robust partner locally, and trying to play algorithms is no way to inform and report. People are craving for communities, and that is something, national media or the major social media companies cannot do as good as local media. “

Still, Todd’s exit is the end of an era on NBC News. He was hired by NBC’s then DC Bureau Chief and Meet the press Moderator Tim Russert in 2007 and became moderator of the program even in 2014. It was during his tenure that the show is expanded for streaming and created new platforms as a Meet the press-Brandet Film Festival.

He officially handed over the baton of Sunday’s public affairs to the current moderator Kristen Welker in the fall of 2023, although he agreed to stay as Chief Political Analyst. And he used this platform, including calling NBC a year ago after the (card) hired former RNC chairman Ronna McDaniel.

“We are grateful for Chuck’s many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two-year-old career on NBC News and for his deep commitment to Meet the press and its sustained legacy. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor, ”a NBC News spokesman said in a statement.

Today is my last day at NBC. I started as a political director in 2007, a month before my son was born, and he will be examined in high school in a few months. So I assume that means I’ve been here for a while.

There is never a perfect time to leave a place that has been a professional home for so long but I am pretty excited about a few new projects that are on the tip of going from “Pie in the Sky” to “near reality.” So I am grateful for the chance to get a jump start on my next chapter in this important moment.

Chucktoddcast also comes with me (thanks NBC). Keep an eye on a message about his new home soon. Of course, I plan to continue sharing my reporting and unique perspective on covering politics with data and history as important base lines in understanding where we were, where we are and where we are going.

The media has a lot of work to do to win the trusts of viewers/listeners/readers, and I am convinced that the best place to start is from scratch up. In my core I am an entrepreneur – I spent my first 15 years professionally working for the company that started the political newsletter that dominates today. And this is a mature moment.

As I said when I announced my exit from MTP, I leave to feel worried about this moment in history, but reassured by the standards in and others at NBC have worked so hard to set. We do not tolerate propagandists. But it also does not mean to stick your head in the sand; If you ignore reality you will miss the greatest story. Being a real political journalist is not about building a brand, it’s about reporting what’s happening, and explaining why it happens and letting the public absorb facts without judging them to come to another conclusion. If you do this job of seeking popularity or simply being an activist, you do this job wrong.

I’m really proud of the work I’ve done with the incredible team of people I’ve been lucky enough to work with during these two decades (and five presidents). The beautiful thing about NBC is that you cannot succeed without being an incredible partner. I fear if I start controlling people, I leave someone out and that won’t be right. I was proud to be able to work on the former home to David Brinkley, Tom Brokaw and Tim Russert. I still can’t believe that I got to follow in their amazing footprints. It will remain an honor for life.

Please don’t be shy about keeping in touch. My personal info is below. Thank you NBC and I can’t wait to work with many of you again down the road. And unnecessarily to say, I will look at too!

Thanks
Chuck Todd
