Chuck Todd leaves NBC

Chuck Todd, former moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press”, leaves the network after almost 20 years.

In an internal memo on Friday, Todd thanked his long -time colleagues and said he has a “few new projects” in the works, signaling a desire for a more entrepreneurial phase in his career. For that reason, he said he leaves the network a number of months before his NBC contract was to expire.

Todd said NBC allows him to take his twice a week podcast franchise, “The Chucktoddcast,” to a new distributor.

For about a decade, Todd was one of the most prominent votes on NBC News that covered the political increase of Donald Trump and the democratic reaction. He helped “Meet the Press” from 2014 to 2023.

Todd was obvious about the corrosive effects of Trump-Era-Lødne and indecency-and was ridiculed by Trump and others for it.

In 2023, after a change of leadership at the top of NBC News, Todd stepped down from “Meet the Press,” and Kristen Welker took over his role.

Todd said it was important not to “exaggerate” his welcome – a striking message to a Washington audience full of older politicians. “I’d rather leave a little too early than to get a little too long,” he added.

Todd saw that his air time was diminished in recent years, though he remained a prominent part of political and election night cover last November.

In a statement on Friday, NBC News said: “We are grateful to Chuck’s many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two decades career on NBC News and for his deep commitment to” meeting the press “and its lasting heritage. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor. ”

In his memo, Todd said: “The media has a lot of work to do to win back to viewers/listeners/readers, and I am convinced that the best place to start is from scratch up,” with local instead of national in the place of national media.

“This is a mature moment,” he added. “The only way to solve this information ecosystem is to stop whining over the different ways the social media companies manipulate things and instead roll our collective sleeves and start with locals.”
