Flying crash in northeastern Philadelphia leaving several houses on fire causes explosion

Emergency personnel respond to an explosion in northeastern Philadelphia after a small plane crashed into the Roosevelt Boulevard area and Cottman Avenue, Philadephia Police confirmed to CBS News Philadelphia.

Two people were aboard the aircraft, according to police. There are other injuries reported on the ground, police added.

Several houses are on fire in the area Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard after the crash, fire officials said.

It is unclear at this time what led to the crash. The status of the victims was also not immediately available.
