Joel Embiid-less Sixers finally closes 17-game January, hosting Nikola Jokic, Nuggets

The Philadelphia 76ers is at the end of what has been an absolute marathon to start 2025 and look best they have the whole season.

Sixers will continue their homeland on Friday night with Denver Nuggets to finally cross the finish line in January, a month of 17 games and five back-to-backs. It’s been an up-and-down experience to put it mildly, but what hasn’t been for this Sixers team this season? From Joel Embiid’s Damage Update, which has kept him sideline most of the month to a seven-match’s losing row, things looked desperate and gloomy almost a week or so ago.

However, closing the month has been a bit of a turn for Philadelphia. Nick Nurs’s Squad is currently on a four-match winning row that has seen the short-haired Sixers defeat them as the eastern conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James’ led Los Angeles Lakers.

Tyrese Maxey plays her best basketball all season, currently on a 12-match strip of scoring at least 25 points per day. Kamp-He scored over 30 in seven of these competitions and fell 43 against Lakers this last Tuesday. As he has gone on this tear, his teammates have looked better around him. Kelly Oubre Jr. Have consistently played well at both ends of the floor. Guerschon Yabusele plays so well that fans in Philadelphia desperately want the team to keep him. Eric Gordon started the month by returning from an absence to dental surgery and has shot 50.7% from three in January ago. And that doesn’t even mention the contributions of Ricky Council IV, Justin Edwards and Adem Bona.

Now another huge challenge is waiting in the form of 28-19 nuggets, currently fourth at the Western conference.

Sixers will still be without Embiid, Paul George, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin and KJ Martin. That said, this quintet sideline is for a number of games now, and it seems that the troop on the floor has finally found their groove operating in their absence.

However, we all know very good difficulty in meeting nuggets, led by MVP candidate Nikola Jokic. The MVP debate “Conversations” (if you can call them it) have soured fans ability to just enjoy greatness in the sport when we see it, but what Jokic is doing this season is nothing short of great. He average a triple-double with 29.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.1 assists per Kamp-It is third in the league for points and rebounds per year. Fight and other for assists. It feels superfluous to even say, but to stop the 6-foot-11, 248-pound Jokic from doing what he wants, is imperative for Philadelphia, even has a chance in this one.

The last time these teams met, Sixers allowed pretty much everyone in a nuggets uniform to do what they wanted. Back on January 22 in Denver, Sixers was at the end of the losing row that we mentioned earlier, and the defense was an absolute no-show for Philadelphia. Denver took advantage of full advantage and absolutely crushed the visitors Sixers 144-109.

That said, The Glimmer of Hope for The Sixers Tonight is in the potential to improve this performance. Not only has their defense looked better, but their scoring also does so compared to the last meeting. Maxey and Yabusele were the only two Sixers who spoke more than 11 points in this competition. One can only hope that the positive trends we have seen develop the last four matches continue tonight – and that the team does not fall back on what they looked like the last time they saw Denver.

Sixers and Nuggets Tip at. 7.30 pm one.
