Mavs takes victory with six games and ‘daily’ mindset to No. 5 Denver

Omaha swept St. Cloud State this past weekend and improved to 10-4-0 in the NCHC game, but still one of their toughest tests is waiting for them at No. 5 Denver.

Simon Latkoczy made 69 savings against SCSU and was named the NCHC goalkeeper of the week for the third time this season. He has made 169 savings over his five-game victory and allowed only one goal in three of these games. Latkoczy is 9-3-0 in NCHC games and with a .944 savings percentage and 2.01 gaa. Mike Gabinet’s Club put together another impressive weekend that expanded his victory for six and swept another ranked opponent in No. 17 SCSU – which fell out of this week’s USCHO vote.

Omaha scored four goals from the third period on Friday and received 31 savings from Simon Latkoczy in a 6-3 win and ended the coward with a 3-1 win on Saturday. Sam Stange, Cam Mitchell and Harrison Israel had all the big weekends, while Zach Urdahl scored another couple of goals.

Now Mavs will try to keep their momentum rolling in Mile High City.

“It’s been really good“Captain Nolan Krenzen said of Omaha’s recent victory. “Obviously, a lot of adversity in the first half, and it’s been like what we had last year, but we’ve made a choice about what our hard ones are becoming. Winning is hard, loser is hard, but the group has made the difficult choice to show up and continue to fight, and I think it turns out. “

Omaha will again be without a beginner forward Myles Hilman over the weekend, who missed the SCSU series with an injury. Hilman has seven points (4-3-7) through 15 games this winter.

Opponent is looking at

Denver stood at a 12-0-0 start and was the country’s unanimous No. 1 team in mid-November, but still they have not been so friendly.

You won a few wins in North Dakota to open NCHC games, but the pioneers were swept by Arizona State the following weekend and split back-to-back series against Western Michigan and Colorado College.

You are 6-8-0 during its last 14 games and enter this series tied to the fourth in the NCHC position with 20 points. There was also an exhibition tie that came out of the holiday break – which you lost in a shootout – against an Acha Club team in UNLV.

However, they are the defending national champs placed in fifth place in the country, and David Carles Lineup is filled with talent and 13 NHL draft. It is also an opponent that has typically been a thorn in Omaha’s side, and the pioneers have won 29 of the 43 matchups as NCHC enemies.

“We know they are a good team, we know they have a lot of firepower with their list and we know we have to be ready to go,” Gabinet said.

Denver shared his series at Minnesota Duluth last weekend, suffered a 4-3 loss in Game 1 and answered with a 2-1 win. Jack Devine and Sam Harris both had two-point weekends (1-1-2), while Aidan Thompson and Eric Pohlkamp each had three assists.

Devine you lead with 33 points and Thompson is just behind with 30 – which ranks sixth and ninth nationally. Harris leads the road with 14 goals. Denver’s 3.8 goals per Cambicroming number two in the country and its 31.8% Power Play (27/85) is the best in the country. You also allow only 2.0 goals per day. Battle that ranks sixth nationally.

One game at a time

Omaha is currently sitting nine points ahead of Denver and North Dakota, which is tied to the fourth in the NCHC position. The top four teams earn at home ice for the playoffs.

As exciting as Omaha’s victory features with six games and 9-1-0 NCHC stretch have been, Mavs has done so against NCHC’s current bottom three teams. Miami has only one point and a 16-match sliding, CC has struggled to score and in the middle of a 4-11-1 stretch and SCSU has lost six equal. Still, Mavs gives credit that they have won the games they need.

However, the last five series are a Gauntlet: at Denver, UMD, in western Michigan, Arizona State and in North Dakota. WMU and ASU are first and third at the conference, UMD has won four of its last six, and as mentioned above you are and und bound to the fourth.

Although Omaha is number two in NCHC, Captain Nolan Krenzen said Mavs does not focus too much on the position. “It’s a daily process and it can be at the back of your mind, but it’s not the main focus,” Krenzen said. “It’s good to have goals like a team, but this late in the season I think it’s about us and the way we want to play and show up.” Photo of the Collin style.

If Mavs wants home, they will definitely have to earn it, but they don’t look too far ahead.

“I think you have to take it one day at a time,” Said Krenzen. “It’s easy to look at where we’re on and maybe what could happen in the future and what happened in the past. But in the end every day you have to show up and you can worry about games when they come. “

“I’m not forgetful about the schedule and the position, but I just push it just aside and really take it weekend on the weekend, opponent of opponent, and I really do,” Gabinet added. “The work that needs to be done to succeed is such a high volume level, and if you spend time thinking about scenarios or worrying about things, I think it just slows down the productive behavior. We are just focused on preparing for Denver. “

Final judgment

Number to know: 2.2 – Omaha allows only 2.2 goals per Fight this season that ranks eighth in the country. Mavs has allowed only nine goals during their current victory with six games, and Omaha goalkeepers have made 196 of possible 205 savings. Omaha’s .934 Team Save Percent is also tied to third national.

Playing to look at: Harrison Israel, Gr., F-Israel had three points (1-2-3) against SCSU and Gabinet said he is playing ‘incredible hockey.’ Israel has seven points (3-4-7) during his last six games and has also won 62 of his 100 Faceoffs in the stretch. He had a two-goal match against Denver last season with Nanooks as well.
