Gophers get five missed goals to beat Wisconsin 5-2-twin cities

Coach Bob Motzko said the Gophers Hockey team has played “Three really good games and three really average” in the last three weeks.

Things did not look like on Friday when Wisconsin took a 2-0 lead into the first break.

Motzko had a simple message to his team: enough.

It was heard loud and clear, especially of the team’s top line of Brodie Ziemer, Erik Påhlsson and Jimmy Snuggerud. The trio accounted for all Minnesota goals and 12 of the team’s 14 points in a 5-2 win over Wisconsin Friday at 3 M Arena at Mariucci in front of 10,747 fans, the third largest audience in the Arena history.

Ziemer and Snuggerud each had two goals and two assists, where Pahlsson got a goal and three helpers.

“Try to get the puck low and get to work. Of course we did not have a good start and it was the lecture between periods. I thought we did it in the second and third and just kind of spectacles it, ”said Snuggerud, who became the third player in the Gopher story that reached the 20-goal mark in each of the first three seasons of their careers where He joined John Mayasich (1952-55) and Dick Dougherty (1951-54).

It was his 19th goal that eventually put Minnesota on the board midway through the second period and left all mute.

By carrying the puck into the Badgers zone, Snuggerud expanded its goal scoring stretch to six games by lasing a pinpoint handle shot from the right dot into the upper corner of the outside.

“One of the best shots I’ve ever seen,” Ziemer said.

“Between periods stood (director of player development) Paul Martin next to me. I said, ‘I’ve been in these 40 years (between) ushl and college.’ I go, ‘I’ve never seen it before.’ I go, ‘You must have seen it in the NHL.’ He goes: ‘I didn’t see that in the NHL.’ It was sick. But he can do it and he feels right now. … It’s fun to watch. “

Ziemer scored 63 seconds left in the frame from Low in the Slot to even the game.

Pahlsson has a goal and eight assists in his last five games. Three of these games were two-assisting performances.

He gave the fourth-ranked Minnesota (20-6-6-3, 11-4-2) its first lead 5 minutes and 43 seconds into the third period.

On an odd man-rush into the Wisconsin zone held the Puck Puck, and his wrist shot from near the right dot shared the pillows of Badger goalkeeper Tommy Scarfone.

Gophers’ fourth goal with 2:32 left the performance closed with a beautiful passing game.

Ziemer left the puck to Pahlsson if one-touch pass went to Snuggerud for a slight redirection. Ziemer added his empty network 20 seconds later.

Liam Soulians made 33 savings for Minnesota in his first Friday start. The usual game a starter Nathan Airey was sick.

Simon Tassy tilted in a shot from Woodbury-nobility Logan Hensler to give No. 17 Wisconsin (11-13-3, 6-10-1) a 1-0 lead only 3:03 into the game. Ryland Mosey scored on a rebound of Gavin Morisey’s wrapped attempt eight minutes later.

“We are tired of not having good starts, and I think we did it again tonight and we will have to improve it. We came back strong in second and third, and that’s what we want to focus on, ”Snuggerud said.
