India against England: Tourists suffer record T20 defeat after Abhishek Sharma Century

England fell down to a record T20 defeat when Abhishek Sharma’s scintillating century drove India to a 150-run victory in Mumbai.

The 24-year-old opens cracked 135 from 54 balls-the highest score of an Indian dough in a T20-Internally-Inclusive 13 sixes and seven fours as the hosts reached 247-9.

Jos Buttler’s side, who chased in their answers and was outlined for only 97 in 10.3 overs – a record defeat of the races – when they lost the series 4-1.

After being put in bats on a good surface at Wankhede Stadium, India England blasted away in powerplay to reach 95-1 after the first six overs.

Abhishek brought up his fifty from 17 balls and then turned on to reach its century in 37 deliveries – the third fastest in a match between testing nations.

He hit his 13th and last six, another national record, a ball, before finally laid off, caught on the coverage limit of Jofra Archer from Adil Rashid.

Phil Salt did his best to keep England up with the required rate and hit 55 from 23 at the top of the order, but no other dough passed 10 in a gloomy hunt.

India Seamer Mohammed Shami took 3-25, while Abhishek claimed 2-3 from his single over and removed both Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton.

Mark Wood was the last dough to fall trapped behind the review, with England ending their first white ball series under coach Brendon McCullum with one of their heaviest defeats.
