Filmmaker Eddie Alcazar about creating The Weeknds Surrealistic ‘Red Terror’

EXCLUSIVE: The Weeknd is depicted as a curious toddlers by filmmaker Eddie Alcazar (DivinityAt The vandal) In the new Stop-Motion Card Film Red Terroran accompaniment to the song with the same name from his latest album release Hurry up tomorrow. The video can be viewed below.

Alcazar created The Nightmarish Fantasy Film Concept after a conversation with the multi-grammy award-winning singer and actor who requested that “a boy in a haunted forest” be the focal point of the story. From idea to concept to final product, Alcazar took about three to four months to complete.

“The creative freedom and time I had worked with Abel let us dive deep into raw themes and bold techniques. By mixing live action, stop movement and VFX, we have made something really unique – an experience that pushes boundaries as we remain rooted in raw feelings, ”Alcazar told Deadline on Saturday after the fall of the project.

Alcazar is best known for his stop-motion creations including his latest feature Divinity (2023), a cosmic horror chief produced by his mentor, Steven Soderbergh, starring in Stephen Dorff, Scott Bakula, Moises Arias, Jason Genao, Karrueche Tran and Bella Thorne. In addition, he collaborated with Darren Aronofsky on the short film The vandalstarring in Bill Duke, which premiered in Cannes in 2021.

His work on The vandal Caught the attention of The Weeknd, born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, which led to their two collaborations on Hurry up tomorrow.

Besides Red TerrorAlcazar instructed The Weeknd’s recent “Open Hearts” appearance at Jimmy Kimmel Live! which was sent just like his album fell. The performance acts as a prequel to “Red Terror”, ending with The Weeknd after a toddler version of itself out into the woods.

“Abel’s music and work ethics are incredibly inspiring, and we were determined to create visuals that matched the wealth and quality of his sound. Our ongoing conversations over the past few months unlocked the new layers with details, which allowed us to expand and elaborate on the world we built, ”shared Alcazar.

He continued, “Stop Motion is a complicated, careful craft – often considered a lost art – with animators on average only five seconds of recordings per day. Day. Each frame requires careful attention from the smallest set adjustments of the subtle character movements. I am truly grateful that Abel trusted this process and embraced the slow, conscious pace required to bring such a handmade artistry to life on such a large scale. ”
