Grammy’s audience breaks beyond Alicia Keys’ apparent slack of Trump movement

Alicia Keys seemed to call President Donald Trump’s efforts to nix diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives when she accepted Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2025 Grammys ceremony Sunday.

“Dei is not a threat, it is a gift,” said the musician at one point during his acceptance speech, which received applause from the audience.

“This is not time to close the diversity of voices,” Keys called.

“We have looked at this step, talented, hard -working people with different backgrounds with different views, and that changes the game. Dei is not a threat – it’s a gift, ”she said.

“The more voices, the more powerful the sound,” Keys added. “When destructive forces try to burn us down, we get off the ashes like a Phoenix, and as you see tonight, music is the unstoppable language that connects us all, it’s so beautiful.”

Keys did not mention by the name of Trump, who in recent days has pulled hard blowback to try to blame DEI for last week’s deadly US airline aircraft accident in Washington, DC

But the Singer-songwriter has previously criticized the returned president and has even used his performance at the 2020 awards to call for his removal from Embed.
