Taylor, Billie, Sabrina confuses expectations

Before we launch in this Grammy’s 2025 edition of Snubs and Surprises, let’s answer a question that might come up right at first: How can we characterize Beyoncé -Winning Album of the Year as a “surprise” when we repeatedly predicted it , as many other prognosticators did? There is an easy answer to it: Although we rightly called it, we were very, very, very, very, very nervous about it. We can relax now. At least one thing has been corrected in this chaotic world, so let’s take a deep breath and take the “surprise” of the actual perceived justice that is being done while we can get it. Now, on!

Snub: Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish are closed out. Are there two more popular and beloved pop stars in the world right now? There is not. And that’s why admission academic voters sleep well tonight – and assume that both Taylor and Billie are also getting a good night’s sleep – knowing that it was ok to let these fields go by this year and let another get love , after all the previous wins they have gathered. Still, it’s a little sharp reality to know that none of these Grammy-believed superstars got another win further down the ballot over the top three. We did Image Eilish either gets Song of the Year and Pop Solo Performance for the still ubiquitous “Birds of a Feather.” But the fact that the whole world is buzzing it when we talk is likely to be enough to keep her warm at night, just as the biggest tour is ever reward enough for Swift in a year. (Now they might come back as nominal underhounds next year.)

Surprise: Beyoncé is doing what we expected her to do … as nobody could be specific to expect her to do. As mentioned above, we had a case of nerves that went into this year’s message: Yes, we called it, but did we not call “Lemonade” back in the day too? You can be sure that no matter what anxiety we felt it was 1000 times that amount to the admission academy that would have a lot of ‘splainin’ to do. And may there be any more sick of Monday Morning Grammy-Plainin ‘End Harvey Mason Jr.-Who should be the happiest guy in the world from 1 p.m. 20.45 PT Sunday night? There was reason to believe that things might not go that way during the premier ceremony before-telecast, as Beyoncé won only a Grammy out of several she was ready for. In the end, as this year’s climatic album approached, she had picked up this year’s album of the year earlier on the telecast … all of which started to worry was an on-air consolation award for missing something bigger. This fear was unjustified, and although Bey Hardy swept the board-she picked up just three awards, out of 11 nominations in year, she swept the one who really counted in her mind, Jay-Z and about a billion fans.

Surprise: Kendrick Lamar wins both record and Song of the Year, two Golde Countries for Hip-Hop. The nominees for these two categories usually overlap for the most part … and often voters who are torn between challengers will see it as a way of spreading love, go to one of their favorites in one department and another In the other. So even though we exactly predicted “not like us” winning record for the year we thought 13,000 members of Recording Academy (A phrase we heard so often during the night) would make a split there and give Eilish and Finneas song to “Birds of a Feather.” There were other prognosis who even saw Eilish getting both, considering her former recent Grammy dominance. Also argued against a lamar sweep of all his categories was the wan number of former hip-hop winners in the top categories. First once before, a rap recording has won for this year’s record (Childish Gambinos “This Is America”), so we all had to decide: Looking at Grammys’ increasingly different voter rolls … or we look at the precedent, Where the older guard has almost always tilted things against the most musical conservative choice in a pinch? It would certainly not have been a scandal if Eilish had won any of these … but even she is probably glad that Kendrick got them.

Surprise: Sabrina Carpenter Sprinter past ahead of the crowded Diva field to demand pop album. Almost anyone who seriously predicted these prices, so this go to Eilish or maybe Chappell Roan. If you had to choose one of this moment’s big pop divas for a shutout, you may have chosen a carpenter who is much appreciated for his new place in the pop company, but may have been seen as a bit too foamy for some serious minded academy -Members. It turns out that Grammy voters love the kind of good flashes that Carpenter delivers as much as someone, or at least enough to push her beyond the competition here. You could also see it as a victory for the large number of hits she delivered: “Espresso” was up to Record of the Year, while “PLEASE PLEASE” was nominated for this year’s song and voters could have had one or the other or the other Of them, they loved a little more … but voting for “Short ‘N Sweet” as an album was effective a way of voting both. And also with Roan Winning BNA, to say: We like you, we really like you, as much as your labelmate.

Snub: Chappell Roan gets the award that everyone most sought after and predicted, best new artist … but come now, nothing else? Let’s call it a moderate snub the most so that the best new artist is chopped the liver. And when Roan got it, we can skip the sack and the ashes on her behalf. But wasn’t there a place for anyone who is so brilliant to prevail elsewhere? You can love what Roan has done for queer representation in mainstream -pop, or you can just love to be as directly talented a singer, songwriter and pop conceptualist as someone to come along for years. Either way, you have to love her, more than the voters of the admission academy apparently did it – this should have just been a bigger year for someone who is this crushing, even in a crowded field. Being anointed like a Grammy poster girl can of course be seen an albatross, so maybe getting an embrace from the academy that is not so excessive Huggy Will be fine for Roan and her independent followers.

Surprise: Sierra Ferrell gets the second highest number of prices at night with four. The Roots Society has taken to Ferrell as no one who has joined for years, so it wasn’t really a total surprise to see her collect any price she was on, considering the support of lovers of people, americana and country. And she has definitely picked up a lot of love and discovery from people who don’t usually listen to rigorous music thanks to co-signs from admiring superstars like Zach Bryan and Post Malone. But realizing that the number of victories she got was higher than anyone, except the five collected by Lamar, is still a happy shock, for those of us who have been beating the tub for a few years.

Surprise: Chris Brown and Dave Chappelle really can’t do anything to turn off the spigot of Grammy Love. Anyone who believes that cancellation of culture prevails in the entertainment industry can just look at the ongoing list of victories of some very controversial numbers that are not loved among progressive to know that this may be a mistake. It’s not really a big shock to see Chappelle still be a Grammy favorite, but it’s still at least a gentle surprise to see Brown continue to be on top, after all the warmth he has taken over the years. Here are two guys who, in terms of the academy, never have to take a redemption trip.

SURPRISE: Dei and Trans Rights pick up some hard -used victories if only within the artist attorney. Of course, none of these were on the Grammy voice slip itself. But on an evening when it looked like everyone could play nicely about the nation’s drastic social and political departments to find a certain unit of fire assistance, there were at least a few artists who were not afraid to go there. “Dei,” in particular has become such a bogeyman designation – referred to the area “woke” – that hearing Alicia Keys brave says “Dei is not a threat, it is a gift” felt like a greater shock than any award result.
