Will Snow Stick in Seattle in Monday?

After tracking spread snow on Sunday morning in western Washington, there is still an opportunity for on-and-off rain/snow showers in the region through at least Monday (if not Tuesday too).

Sunday the daytime

Earlier this morning, snow was reported in many neighborhoods in western Washington. For the most part, this only resulted in a slight accumulation.

For the rest of the day Sunday there could be a mixture of rain/snow/gossip/small hail/graupel around Western Washington – just like Saturday. We cannot exclude a spotted lightning strike.

Any scattered snow in the lowlands during the day will be pretty smaller, which only results in a slight accumulation for most. With heights in the upper 30s, any short coating on the ground is likely to melt. However, we are concerned about moisture frozen tonight.

A rain/snow mix cannot be excluded in the coming days for Seattle.

During the mountains, avalanche is raised in the hinterland. A total of Sunday there could be two more to five inches of snow over the passes.

Sunday night to Monday Morning

Temperatures cool faster tonight compared to Saturday night. Isolated snowbands continue on Sunday night to Monday. The great concern overnight will be icy roads.

We lose a lot of extra moisture after midnight and showers will be far less prevalent Monday morning. However, any rainfall that falls overnight will be in the form of snow – potentially lead to minor accumulation where this happens.

This is a “party or famine” scenario where some communities get nothing while others see a small coating of snow on earth. Read below for snow amounts and influences.

For children hoping for a delay or cancellation Monday Morning: The weather will be a disappointment for most places. Ice cream could certainly guarantee delays in some areas – it is difficult to say exactly at this time.

Western WhatCom or Skagit – Together with Western Clallam and Jefferson counties – have a better chance of collecting snow that can trigger at least some delays. There is still some uncertainty about how much snow can be stacked up in these areas. More details about it below.

Monday the daytime

After a semi-quiet morning, another round of rain/snow could develop in the South Sound with about noon Monday. This can become more extensive around Puget -sound throughout the rest of the day. Should this band be heavy enough, the primary rainfall could be snow. During this, minor accumulations are possible. The evening commuting could be smooth where this happens.

Monday night

Unfortunately, Ice will be a problem again Monday night. Any spotted snow that falls Monday night can stick to the ground. Hold with us for further details.

Tuesday and beyond

While temperatures remain cold with heights in the mid -30s, the snow potential looks through the end of the week minimally. Showers look insulated at this time. Of course, stray snow and ice could slow down traffic and lead to smooth spots, but the rest of the seven -day forecast beyond Tuesday doesn’t look very exciting at this time. We’ll keep you updated with the latest.

Active alarms in effect and snow totals

A winter weather counseling is in effect for North and South Sound Communities, Eastern King/Snohomish/Pierce Counties and Central and North Coast until 10 pm. 13 Monday. Remember: Snow collection will be very neighborhood dependent and scattered in nature.

In Western WhatCom and Skagit counties between tonight and Monday, there may be between two and four plus inches of snow that accumulates. There may be located higher totals if stronger showers are realized.

For the central and north coast of Washington, three to six inches are possible. However, there is a scenario where there may be higher totals in Western Clallam and Jefferson counties whose intense bands of snow emerge. This can feel like a frustrating prognosis because there are more possible results – I just want you to be prepared for a number of how this can play out.

There may be higher totals where a winter storm warning is in force for southwest Washington, including Willapa Hills.
