Atmospheric river brings rain and cold to the Pacific Ocean northwest

A prolonged atmospheric river event is set to continue to deliver moderate to heavy rain over the northwest Pacific, with the Portland area that stiffens for a cold week to come.

Showers are expected to continue in parts of the city and the valley for Saturday night. When temperatures fall to freezing levels early Sunday morning, there is a chance of snow and rain, according to National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to rise through Sunday and reduce the likelihood of snow during the day. However, snow can return later in the evening. National Weather Service and Katus Weekend meteorologist, Allison Gutleber, said the possibility of a snow in the evening and rain mix will continue during the week.
