Some restaurants in Oklahoma City close Monday in National Event

Businesses across the country, including in Oklahoma, close their doors on Monday as part of a national movement.

The social media -driven campaign “a Day without immigrants“Encourages immigrants to stay home from work, not take their children to school, and encourage companies to close and people refrain from shopping on Monday, February 3rd.

The planned protest comes in the midst of reported US immigration and customs enforcement attacks across the country that has erected Fear among immigrant families. The first ‘day without immigrants’ was held in February 2017 in protest against President Donald Trump’s immigration plans in his first period, according to the LA Times.

Many companies nationwide have reportedly closed in solidarity with the movement from coast to coast, including Washington DCAt MinnesotaAt San Francisco And more.

In Oklahoma City, several restaurants have announced solidarity closures, including restaurants owned by good egg side.

“Our industry, our restaurants and our society are built on the hard work, passion and dedication of immigrants. They are the backbone of our kitchens, our service and our culture. Today we stand with them,” reads a social media post shared by the group’s restaurants.

What is ‘a day without immigrants’?

In 2017, protesters in Washington, DC and boycotting companies protested to show the financial impact generated by the immigrant community throughout the country. Some other participating cities were included, Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville and more.
