Rep. Castro, San Antonio Mayor Nirenberg among local lawmakers to discuss President Trump’s customs duties

San Antonio – Two days after the White House announced its intention to impose three countries – Canada, China and Mexico – President Trump seemed to push the break against one of these countries on Monday morning: Mexico.

In response to the February 1, several legislators in the San Antonio area were led by the US rep. Joaquin Castro, agreed on Sunday to perform at a news conference on Monday afternoon to discuss the duty of the White Huss.

After the White House announced his tariffs on Mexico, a Castro spokesman to KSAT confirmed late Monday morning that the news conference on the steps of San Antonio City Hall would continue “as planned.”

The news conference will be livestreamed in this article at. 14:30 Monday. Livestream also appears on the free KSAT+ streaming app.

The other legislators who are expected to perform with Castro include San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, state representative Trey Martinez Fischer and State Sens. José Menéndez and Roland Gutierrez.

According to the Associated Press, Mexico would have been exposed to a 25% duty, while Canada would be charged 25% for its import to the United States and 10% on its energy products.

China is facing a further 10% duty due to its role in the manufacture and sale of fentanyl, the White House said.

Trump’s Customs against Canada and China were still intended to come into force on Tuesday, but uncertainty is back on the durability of any offers and whether the customs were a harbing of a wider trade war, Associated Press reported.

This is an evolving story. Associated Press contributed to this story.
