President Donald Trump said on Monday that he paused for a month that his new 25% tariff rates on goods imported from Mexico after the country’s president agreed to immediately send 10,000 soldiers to the US border to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico.

Trump in a social media post said that during the break “will have negotiations” about customs “led by State Secretary Marco Rubio, State Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick and high -level representatives.”

He also said “I look forward to participating in these negotiations” with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum “when we try to achieve a ‘agreement’ between our two countries.”

The message came two days after Trump dropped 25% duties on goods from Mexico and Canada, and 10% tariffs on goods imported from China.

Sheinbaum over the weekend threatened retaliatory guares on goods imported from the United States, and not goals, but had not revealed the rate for the tariffs.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday night that his country would implement a 25% duty against $ 155 billion in US goods in return for Trump’s duty, which had been announced hours earlier.

China has said it will challenge customs duties in the World Trade Organization.

US shares that had opened trade lower Monday regained most of these losses on news about the break on customs on goods from Mexico.
