State Secretary Marco Rubio says he is now acting director The US Agency for International Development after the Trump Administration’s sudden freezing of federal foreign expenses.

When he spoke with journalists in El Salvador on Monday, the Rubio accused the agency of not cooperating with requests for information on how it used taxpayers’ dollars.

Earlier Monday, Elon Musk announced that his government’s effectiveness was in the process of “closing USAD.”

USAID staff woke up to an E email that told them the headquarters in Washington, DC, would be closed for the day and that they had to work from home.

Some democratic members of Congress speak against Trump administration’s efforts to stop most of USAid’s work.

“This is a unit created through the federal statute, codified through the federal statute, and something that cannot be changed cannot be removed except through the actions of the congress,” the democratic late said. Andy Kim from New Jersey, as protesters gathered outside USAID headquarters.

Founded in 1961, the agency controls billions of dollars in federal humanitarian aid all over the world. But its work was thrown into the upheaval in the last week when the Trump administration stopped almost all its programs.

While Rubio said he is officially the acting director of USAID, he said he has “delegated this authority to someone, but I keep in touch with him,” without naming the person he delegates to.

He said there are things that USAD does, “we need to continue to do and we will continue to do. But all they do must be in line with the national interest and the United States’ foreign policy. “

This is an evolving story that is likely to be updated.
