Yes, Duh, Eagles should try to act for Browns de Myles Garrett

The two best footballers I’ve ever seen in the Training Camp Joint Practices in my 12 seasons covering the NFL were Tom Brady and Myles Garrett.

Eagles and Browns worked together in Philly in 2023, and Garrett basically destroyed the parts of the practice he participated in because no one could block him. Eagles’ player who looked the most out of Garrett was Jordan Mailata, who had a Pro Bowl caliber season in 2023, when Garrett switched between running around him and running through him all day long. It was only after Garrett decided he had finished practicing for the day that Eagles ‘violation and the rest of Browns’ defense could get some quality work in.

Garrett may well be the best defensive player in the NFL. He was NFL’s defensive player in the year in 2023 and he was nominated again in 2024. He now has seven equal seasons of double -digit bags and 60 bags in 66 games since 2021.

He also had one of the highlights of the season as he skipped the Eagles Field Measurement Team and blocked a kick that was returned for a touchdown.

He has An extreme blend of size and speedwhich has translated into unique production on the football field despite having played for a bad organization in Cleveland.

On Monday, Garrett sent a press release saying he has asked Browns to trade him.

As a child who dreamed of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a super bowl – and this goal burns me today more than ever. My love for society in northeastern Ohio and the incredible fanbase of Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. The last eight years have shaped me into the man I am today.

While I have loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete at the biggest stages will not allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it’s always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from Cleveland Browns.

And Myles Garrett

Should Eagles be of interest?

I mean, yes, lol. Of course they should. Each team in the league should.

He is arguably the best defender in the sport, and Eagles’ greatest need is probably this season on Edge Rusher.

In his statement above, Garrett only says he will play for a team that can compete for a Super Bowl. He does not mention money, but he would almost certainly ask for a new contract from any acquisition of team. And spoiler it will be expensive:

So what is the trading costs?

Well, a surprising number of good-to-sized Kantrushers have been traded in the last 7-8 years, such as Brian Burns, Bradley Chubb, Montez Sweat, von Miller, Yannick Ngakoue, Frank Clark, Olivier Vernon, etc., but it plays, that probably had some comparable value with Garrett at the time he was traded was Khalil Mack, back in 2018. The details of this trade:

Bears got Raiders got
Khalil Mack 2019 1. Round choices
2020 2. Round choices 2020 1. Round choices
2019 7. Round choices 2020 3rd round choices
2019 6. Round choices

Mack was 27 at the time of this trade and entered his fifth year in the NFL. Garrett became 29 in December, and 2025 will be his ninth year in the NFL. Of course, Garrett has more wear on his body than Mack did at the time, but Garrett is also a better player.

My guess is that the cost is at least a few choices of the first round, and in Eagles’ case, probably more because their 2025 first rounder will be 31 or 32. Overall, and their choice of 2026 is probably later in the first one too round.

For what it is worth, Brown’s NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo told them they do not intend to trade Garrett because there really is nothing else they can say.

But in the end, if Garrett wants bad enough, he can probably make it happen and he has no shortage of volunteers.
