Trae Young Hits Dagger to 132-130 Hawks Win

game

The Detroit stamps came short at home Monday and fell to Atlanta Hawks 132-130 after a game winner from the superstar Trae Young.

With 1.6 seconds back, Young knocked down a long jumper to get the victory for Hawks at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and dropped Pistons back to .500 overall (25-25). They were led by Cade Cunningham, ending with 30 points and 14 assists. Tobias Harris scored 22 points, and Jalen Duren and Malik Beasley each had 18 points. Duren also added nine rebounds.

A late 9-0 Piston Run delivered them their first lead in the fourth quarter, 126-124. Harris was responsible for the last three buckets of the race, where he came with a steal before finding Ausar Thompson in the transition to an alley-oop. He followed it with back-to-back buckets, the other of which gave the piston the lead with 2:33 back.

Trae Young responded immediately, knocking a 3-Pointer the following possession to put the Hawks back on top. Onyeka Okongwu followed a couple of free kicks from Cunningham with a layup with 1:37 to play, giving the Hawks the lead again.

With 33.8 seconds left, Young split a couple of free kicks after Dyson Daniels came with a steal at Cunningham to expand their lead to two, 130-128. Cunningham tied the game the next possession of 130 before Young’s game -winning jumper.

It was Pistons’ third match on four nights and fourth matches of six nights, and they looked dull throughout the game. After one forward and back opening quarter, they only made six of their 17 attempts in the second period (35.3%) and were bent by strong shooting on the line, making 15 of 17 attempts in the same period to carry a 73-64 deficit During the break.

Atlanta took control of the other with a 17-5 race that expanded their lead to nine midway through, and it reached 11, 65-54, with 3:15 left until the break after a set up of Daniels. Cunningham, who spoke five points and seven assists during the opening period, shot only 1-for-6 in the second when Pistons’ violation stagnated.

The stamps responded with a 22-8 race that started at the end of the second, and continued into the second half by outscoring Hawks 13-2 to open the third. It got them the lead, 77-75, but their violation got cold again after Cunningham subbed out towards the end of the third. Hawks used a 21-9 race to take a 12-point lead, 113-101, forcing Cunningham to check back with 10 minutes left.

The duration stepped up offensive influence

Monday was the DUM’s 12th coherent games in double value. In his previous 11 he entered the game, he earned 74.7% of his field goals.

The Hawks game illustrated why the major has been such an effective weapon. The stamps opened the game with back-to-back-to-back alley-ups from Cunningham to the major, causing the big man to go early and Cunningham a handful of light assists on the way to another high assist night. He connected with the duration of back-to-back-lobs again in the third quarter.

Cunningham-Douren Pick-and-Roll has become a reliable offensive engine for the stamps and has helped both players put big scoring numbers over Pistons’ success over the past six weeks.
