Game

  • The first winter storm is expected on Wednesday in Thursday.
  • It will be followed by another storm over the weekend taking a similar path.
  • Snow and ice in Midwest and northeast could create dangerous trips.
  • The active winter storm pattern can continue in next week.

An active weather pattern will deliver back-to-back winter storms to parts of the midwest and northeast through this weekend, where snow and ice could sometimes create dangerous travel conditions.

Herere is a look at what to expect from both storms, followed by an early head that this active winter storm pattern can continue in next week.

S TORM # 1: Wednesday-Thursday

Low pressure is pulled in a snail with moisture against cold high pressure, giving a wintry root of ice and snow the opportunity to develop in the midwest, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, especially before Wednesday night.

His first system has been named Winter Storm Freya by the Weather Channel.

Midwest, Great Lakes Outlook

  • F Reezing rain and gossip will develop in northern Missouri and Iowa before spreading across the southern Great Lakes later Wednesday and overnight, including Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit. Remember that even small amounts of glaze could make travel dangerous (pink and purple shady areas on the map below), so it is best to stay away from roads.
  • The best chance of rainfall to remain all snow is from central and northern Minnesota to northern Michigan.
Wednesday evening forecastWednesday evening forecast

The green shadows depict where rain is expected. Areas that are shady blue are expected to see snow. Purple-shaded locations can see either rain or snow. Areas in pink are expected to see gossip or freezing rain (ice cream).

Northeast Outlook

  • P Orthions from Mid-Atlantic, including Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC, may see dangerous travel conditions from freezing rain and gossip on Wednesday night until early Thursday morning, before going to rain by Thursday morning.
  • The Interstate 95 corridor from N EW YORK CITY to Boston could start as a snowfall or a winter mix late Wednesday night or Thursday, but these areas are likely to change to rain at some point during the day on Thursday.
  • In the interior, considerable glaze is possible in central Pennsylvania, and the best chance of rainfall to remain all snow is in northern New England.

S NOW, Ice forecast

  • We do not expect large snowfall plots from this system in most areas, but at least a coating is expected to a few centimeters from North Dakota and central and northern Minnesota to Upstate New York and northern New England.
  • Any accumulating snow near and west of Interstate 95 from New York to Boston must be light before switching to a winter mix and rain.
  • Misning from freezing rain could be enough for dangerous trips for at least a short time in one of the locations that are shady pink on the second map below, spread from west to east over these areas Wednesday to Wednesday night and Thursday. As mentioned earlier, even small quantities of ice cream could create dangerous journeys.
  • H EAVIER TOTES that are capable of breaking some wooden voices and causing scattered power cuts are possible in the central appalachers, especially the central Pennsylvania.

ICE accumulations of 0.10 inches or less can cause the journey to be extremely dangerous, but usually not damaged for trees and power lines.

S TORM # 2: Saturday-Sunday

His second winter storm in a few days will affect many of the same areas in the Midwest and the Northeast. Once again, low -pressure -spreading moisture adjusts to retreat with cold high pressure table for both snow and ice.

  • I’m a little early for details, but snow and strip of ice cream seem to develop before Saturday from Upper Midwest and Great Lakes to parts of the Mid-Atlantic and the northeast.
  • The Interstate 95 corridor could at least start with a burst of snow, including around New York City and Boston before switching to a winter mix and/or rain.
  • His system is a quick-mover, so by Sunday much of its remaining snowfall will be over New England when the storm departs

N EXT WEEK

  • L ong-term computer model Forecast Guidance suggests that this active winter storm pattern can continue in the Midwest and East next week.
  • This means that one or more rounds of additional snow and ice are possible, but it is too early for details.
  • With colder air going south, there is a chance that the areas of snow and/or ice may be further south compared to what we see through this week.
  • C Pokker back to Weather.com and the Weather Channel app throughout this week to get more details about the forecast through this weekend and beyond.
