Potential ice cream storm Wednesday night

Dry air could make a few breaks in the clouds tonight. A storm on Wednesday night should bring some gossip and freezing rain. Travel could become very difficult through Thursday morning.

We get some sunshine on Tuesday as the sky will partly be sunny early. Then the clouds rise during the rest of the day. It will be a colder day with high temperatures that peaked near 30 °. Clouds rise overnight Tuesday, leading to a cloudy Wednesday with heights in the top 20s.

An icy storm system will have a big impact on our weather Wednesday night to Thursday morning. Hot air will override below the freezing temperatures on the surface, which means mostly freezing rain over the Metro Detroit. Ice hotels are likely to be about 0.1-0.25 inches. Smooth and dangerous driving conditions are expected on Wednesday night to Thursday morning, and power cuts will be possible. Temperatures will continue to warm throughout Thursday, which helps the ice melt and travel conditions to improve.

Tonight: Clouds fall by low level in their 20s. Wind: NNW 5-10 mph.

Tuesday: Clouds are rising. Heights near 30 °. Wind: NNW 5-15 mph.

Wednesday: Clouds with a little chance of a winter blend toward the end of the day. Heights in the upper 20s. Wind: E 5-15 mph.
