4 more arrested in connection with deadly aliamanu -fireworks -explosion

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – Four more people were arrested Friday in connection with the deadly New Year’s fireworks Explosion in Aliamanu.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman for reckless danger in the first degree, with a minor being in danger of a minor in the first degree and more fireworks violations.

Police said they participated in the collection and ignited illegal fireworks with their two minor children aged 11 and 9 years.

A 29-year-old man was arrested for threatening a minor’s welfare in the first degree and more fireworks violations, and a 28-year-old woman was arrested for threatening a minor’s welfare in the first degree.

Police said they also participated in the collection and ignited fireworks with their one year old child.

None of the children were seriously injured and needed medical attention, police say.

So far, the Honolulu police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the investigation and they say more are coming.

Four of these arrests took place on Wednesday. Police said the suspects were released pending investigation and their cases will be sent to the Department of the Coming.

Five people have died because of the incident and dozens more were injured.

Five survivors are currently being treated at Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center Valleywise Health.

Straub Benioff Medical Center in Honolulu said Friday that four patients remain in their care, where Burn Care Unit treats the most critically wounded as they require complex wound care.

Five patients injured in the incident have been discharged, the hospital said.

During the investigation, police said that approx. 500 pounds of unused illegal fireworks were recovered from the carport and from vehicles belonging to individuals at the collection.

Police also said more people were “non -cooperative with detectives” and others gave false statements.
