If you are a Barclays Bank customer who has been left out of pocket due to widespread delays that send or receive payments here is how to try to regain any affiliated costs you have incurred. Technical problems in the bank first began on Friday, January 31 and have rolled on for several days.

The questions have left some without January’s salary, while others have not been able to make significant payments, including their self -assessment tax bill before the deadline, which was also 31 January. The knock-on influence is that some have been pushed into the red and/or stabbed by related fees-for example late payment fees and/or interest.

Barclays said on Monday, February 3, the question is now resolved and delayed payments processed with customers who are once again able to use their cards and withdraw cash, as well as make payments through its app, online banking and Telephone services. However, it continues to “bring balance updated” and “address any outstanding problems”.

How to get your money back if you have incurred costs

  • First, keep a record and collect proof of any costs incurred. This is so you can ask Barclays to sit back in the position you would have been in if it wasn’t for the payment delays. Consider taking screenshots and holding relevant E emails, letters or receipts.

  • Barclays says it proactively contacts customers who can be vulnerable. Although it has not provided more details about this. Always pay attention to scammers and if in doubt, finish all communication and contact Barclays directly yourself.

  • If you haven’t heard anything from Barclays, contact it directly and ask it to prove you. This includes those who have been hit by a daily interest tax of 7.25% after not being able to make payments against their self -assessment tax bill before the deadline Friday 31. January. HMRC has confirmed that it will not offer a refund in this scenario as its services were still underway.

You can contact Barclays via phone on 0345 600 2323 – even if you are aware that you may be waiting longer than usual to get through. You can too Contact Barclays through its app or social media.

  • It is unclear whether compensation is offered on top. Barclays has said it is “sorry for any disturbance and will ensure that no affected customer is out of his pocket”. Of course, there is no harm asking for a goodwill payment on top if you feel that you have a little emotionally or been bothered in other ways by the problems.

  • If it does not work, you must raise a formal complaint. You can follow Barclays’ Official complaint process.

  • As a last resort, it escalates to the service of the financial Ombudsman. If Barclays does not respond to your complaint within eight weeks or you are dissatisfied with the answer you get, you can escalate it to the free and independent financial Ombudsman’s service that has the power to order banks to pay monetary compensation. For more info on the process, see our guide to financial rights.
