Trump -Administration prepares executive order to initiate the Institute of Education

The Trump administration has begun to prepare an executive order that would start the process of eliminating the Ministry of Education, the latest steps from President Donald Trump to quickly implement his campaign trucks, two sources familiar with the plans told CNN.

The move would come in two parts, the sources say. The order would refer the Education Secretary to set up a plan to reduce the department through executive actions.

Trump would also press the congress adopting legislation to end the department as those who work with the order acknowledge that shutters of the department would require congress commitment.

While calls to abolish the department or merge it with another federal agency is not new, the move has historically failed to get support from Congress.

During Trump’s first period as president, his administration suggested merger of educational and labor departments to a federal agency. Although Republicans checked both the Senate and the House of Representatives at the time, the proposal did not go anywhere.

This year, the education department is also targeted by the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, which CNN reported previously.

Dozens of employees at the education department were placed on paid administrative leave on Friday as part of the Trump administration’s greater effort to free the federal workforce for employees associated with diversity, justice, inclusion and accessibility efforts.

On the campaign track, Trump repeatedly pointed to the department as a sign of federal overreaction and tied it to cultural war issues. “We want to drain the government education sump and stop the abuse of your taxpayers dollars to indoctrinate America’s youth with all sorts of things that you do not want our youth consultation,” Trump said.

But even though he succeeded in finishing the department, it is possible that some programs and financing could be preserved and switched to other agencies, which is Where they became the house before the department was established in 1979.

Federal financing programs for K-12 schools that help support the education of students from low-income families and children with disabilities, for example, the creation of the Department of Education took place.

When presidents have proposed cuts to the department’s budget in the past, Congress has resisted and set aside more funding than what the president asked for about 71% of the time, according to an analysis from Brookings Institution. Even when the first Trump administration suggested to cut the department’s budget, the Republican controlled congress eventually increased funding.
