NJ WEATHER: Winter Weather Alerts issued in 15 counties in front of Nasty Snow, Ice Storm

The National Weather Service has issued Winter weather advisers In 15 New Jersey counties to a fast -moving winter storm that is expected to bring a dangerous blend of snow, gossip, freezing rain and ordinary rain that starts late Wednesday.

Forecasts warn drivers that some roads, highways and bridges could become extremely smooth from a thin layer of ice, especially in the northern and northwestern regions of the state.

“We are expected to see any kind of winter rainfall Wednesday night and Thursday morning: snow, gossip, freezing rain and everything in between,” said the weather service.

Agency’s most important takeaway on the threatening storm: “It will be an icy mess on Wednesday night for Thursday morning!”

Formal winter weather advisers have been sent to Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Morris, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren Counties, Counseling runs from late Wednesday to early Thursday afternoon, with specific times (listed below), which varies from county to county.

Although prognosis only expect light sneak cumulations in the early stage of the storm, the snow is likely to change to gossip and freezing rain, then to ordinary rain as the air temperatures begin to rise above the freezer.

In some areas of the advisory zone, especially northwestern New Jersey, as much as two tenths of an empty ice cream could build on untreated roads, highways, bridges and sidewalks, create dangerous conditions, said prognosis.

“Plan on smooth road conditions,” the weather service said in its advisers, noting that “dangerous conditions could affect commuting on Thursday morning.”

Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Union & Passaic Counties

  • Forecast: Expected rainfall. Total snow and gossip accumulations up to 2 inches and isaccumulations up to a tenth of an inch.
  • Advisory Time: 04:00 Thursday to 7 p.m. 13 Thursday.

Cumberland & Salem counties

  • Forecast: Expected rainfall. Total snow and gossip accumulations up to 1 inch and isaccumulations up to one tenth of an inch.
  • Advisory Time: 21.00 Wednesday to 7 p.m. 9 Thursday.

Northwestern Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Morris, Somerset Counties

  • Forecast: Expected rainfall. Total snow and gossip accumulations up to 1 inch and isaccumulations up to one tenth of an inch.
  • Advisory Time: Midnight Wednesday night for 10 am Thursday.

Sussex & Warren County

  • Forecast: Expected rainfall. Total snow and gossip accumulations up to 1 inch and isaccumulations between one tenth and two tenths of an inch.
  • Advisory Time: Midnight Wednesday night for 10 am Thursday.
