A winter storm will bring snow and icy conditions from the midwest to the northeast that will jeopardize the journey, but the south will see record high temperatures this week – reaching the 80s in some places, according to prognosis.

From late Wednesday and continues into Thursday, winter weather brings light snow, freezes rain and gossip to parts of the midwest to mid -Atlantic states, including Maryland, National Weather Service (NWS) says. The biggest concern for people in these areas will be freezing rain, Bob Oravec, leading forecasts at NWS, says NPR.

“There may certainly be some icy roads, especially from the northern Illinois over the central of northern Indiana,” says Oravec, adding that the southern and lower Michigan peninsula will also be affected. “Early Thursday is probably some of the worst driving conditions, especially when you enter the mid -Atlantic area.”

Small amounts of freezing rain that accumulates on the road “can lead to dangerous journeys,” National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center warns.

“Accumulating gossip can be strenuous to shovel and be treacherous to both drive and walk on. Be sure to check the conditions before taking out and driving slowly,” the agency says.

Temperatures are expected to be under freezing in some upper parts of the United States, which can lead to isaccumulation in places affected by the storm. Northern Indiana, Northern Ohio, Southwestern Pennsylvania and parts of Maryland and West Virginia could see a tenth of a quarter empty ice cream, according to Oravec.

The storm system moves quickly across the United States with freezing rain and gossip forecast to change to all rain by Thursday afternoon, he says. And while upper parts of the country will look typically winter weather, southern states will extend from Texas to South Carolina see unusually warm temperatures.

“Registration of high temperatures is expected with several locations that are expected to see temperatures reaching the 80s will be locally 20 to 30+ degrees above normal for this time of year,” the Said NWS in an advisory Tuesday.

When the season changes to late winter and early spring, there can be major differences in temperatures from northern to southern parts of the country, with more winter weather seen further north, according to Oravec.

“It’s not atypical to have some hot weather in winter. At the moment there really is no Arctic air across the country,” says Oravec. “Right now the weather pattern is so that it supports the potential for hot weather all over the south.”

The Atmospheric rivercolumns of water vapor in the atmosphere that have brought Heavy rain And snowfall for parts of California will top Tuesday afternoon and decrease. But another round is expected on Thursday.

Winter weather will also affect those traveling to the Super Bowl, but the weather in the host city New Orleans on Sunday will be comfortable.

“We will not repeat the historic blizzard,” says Oravec, referring to the winter storm in January, dumping up to a foot of snow in the city. “If something gets hot.”
