Michigan State’s 13-match winning strip broke in losses at USC

Michigan State’s longest winning row in six years is over, finishing the shot on a program record and delays a large ten milestone.

Spartans # 7 drew the entire game in a loss of 70-64 against the USC on Saturday at the Galen Center and broke a string of 13 straight wins. It also prevented Michigan State in the program’s first 10-0 start in the Big Ten Play and Coach Tom Izzo from tying Bob Knight’s record with 353 Big Ten wins.

It was the first loss for the Spartans (18-3, 9-1 Big Ten) since a November 26 defeat against Memphis in a Maui Invitational Semi-Final, but they are still alone at the top of the conference position.

Jeremy fears Michigan State led with 12 points and six assists, while Jaden Akins scored 11 and Coen Carr ni. Although a prominent depth keyed a 30-9 advantage in benches, the spartans were unable to run as usual. Nation’s No. 1 team on the quick break of 18.5 points per Fight was limited to only nine against the Trojans. They were also third place in the country in free throwing percentage (81.2), but knocked just 11 out of 19 from the line.

Desmond Claude scored a game high 19 to lead the USC, while Wesley Yates had 15 and Chibuzo Agbo 14.

USC, who came out of a home loss to the screaming rival UCLA at the beginning of the week, was everywhere in the Michigan State early in the wire-to-wire victory. Claude hit his first three shots and five free throw as the Trojans took in a 15-point lead seven minutes to match the biggest deficit of the Spartans season.

Michigan State responded with a 14-2 race elicited by the bench, including seven points by Carr and six from Jase Richardson as he entered the break down 35-32. Agbo led the Trojans with 12 points in half, while Claude, who spent time in the dressing room due to a leg injury before returning, had 11.

The Trojans made five of their first six attempts to open the second half, including four triple, and regained a double-digit lead of 55-45. Akins, who had only two points in the first half, knocked back-to-back shots, including a 3-point from the corner, to pull the spartans within three.

Down nine with three minutes to play, three Holloman threw a lob to Carson Cooper for a two -handed sludge, and the Spartans forced a turnover at the other end. Frankie Fuilder drew an offensive error under two minutes, and fear shared a few free kicks to cut the deficit to five.

Akins missed a transition triple and did not get rid of a trial before a violation of shot clock with less than a minute to play. The USC then threw deeply on in -depth for a sludge of yates, and it mostly sealed the result.

Michigan State will end a two-game trip to Los Angeles with a game of UCLA (16-6, 7-4) Tuesday (7 p.m.
