The outbreak began December 23 in a crater at the top of Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes.

This marks the eighth episode of the outbreak. Small, sporadic sprayer fountains began on Sunday, which became more intense, the observatory said. The spring waters grew from 50 feet (15.24 meters) high to 250 feet (76.2 meters) high in one hour Monday night.

The outbreak occurs within a closed area of ​​Hawaii Volcanoes National Park without pending a threat to home or infrastructure.
