Angela Rayners Council Overhang Leaves 5.7 m Without Voting This Year

More than five million people are losing the chance to vote this year as part of Angela Rayner’s plan for the largest overhaul of local authorities in half a century.

Local choices to take place in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire will be canceled. New elections in these areas take place in 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister has said.

Ministers want to abolish more than a hundred less advice at the end of parliament. Each council has been asked to submit detailed proposals for Devolution and reorganization by November with initial plans submitted at the end of March.
