Winter Storm fighting northern Whatcom County with snow and hard wind

Northern Whatcom County got a double whammy from Mother Nature, Snow and Winds.

The winds drove north into the lyric, swirling the winds, now in drives around the barns, trees and ditches.

The wind made loud noises, hit the vehicle and forced drivers to close the steering wheel to stay on course. Going out of the car came with the danger of the door either to be blown away from you or into. The winds went out to 34 km / h, making the temperature feel like 16 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

“The Windchill factor falls when there is a northeast wind like it,” Jan Holtrop told Komo News.

“It’s just that. We can get four to six inches here and it will sometimes stack up to five meters, ”said Ron Holtrop. The lifelong lyndenites met in high school and have now been married for 53 years. The downtown streets in the Lynden were snowpacked, but drivers like Ron were still out there and driving around.

The Holtrops had ventured into the cold to grab a hamburger at the Dutch treatment restaurant. After watching Snowplows cross the city, Ron said he was pretty sure they would be open. Millie, the owner told Komo News that she is trying hard to be open to her customers, like Holtrops.

She said as long as she and her staff can probably get there, she will be open. Although the sun was shining lights, the lyric still remained icy cold all day when people rushed in between their vehicles and the bank or other businesses. Under -freezing temperatures kept it cold and freezing a number of these foot pressure on the sidewalk outside the social center. The sun is also deceiving elsewhere.

State Patrol told Komo News that the driver of a fertilizer car was caught by guard and hit an ice cream space at Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County. It was 10am when it happened, the truck full of fertilizer rolled over to its side in a ditch. Thank God he was not injured.

Driving north at Chuckanut Drive into WhatCom County held lots of shade the lanes covered with snow, and ferns and trees in the forest just glinted under a new blanket of snow.

Back in Lynden, the city crews still cleared the streets and the parking lot at the town hall, far into the late afternoon.

A group of a dozen men enjoyed so hot coffee and conversation at the back of the restaurant, while Holtrops shared a hamburger and french fries.

After enjoying their lunch, they told Komo that they were on their way to the grocery store.
