Flash Flood Emergency Issued in Huntington, West Virginia, in the middle of growing tornado threat

Huntington, W. Va. -A dangerous and life -threatening situation takes place in parts of West Virginia, as officials call on residents of many communities to seek higher grounds immediately after the forecasts issued a rare emergency for flooding early Thursday morning.

This is a rapidly evolving situation, but forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Charleston, West Virginia, issued the emergency for the flash flood for the Huntington area after several centimeters of rain fell for a short period of time.

From Thursday morning, between 2 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, and another half inch for an empty rain is expected.

There have been several reports of high water rescues in the Huntington area, and more rock protectors have also been reported throughout the region.

“Move to higher soil now,” NWS warned. “This is an extremely dangerous and life -threatening situation. Do not try to travel unless you flee from an area subject to flooding or during an evacuation order.”

Flash flooding already occurs, but NWS said societies that will experience further flooding include Huntington, Chesapeake, Barboursville and Pea Ridge.

“This includes Interstate 64 in West Virginia between Mile Markers 7 and 7 and between Mile Markers 15 and 17,” NWS said.

Severe weather and thunderstorms have swept across the region, and the threat is expected to continue through at least the rest of Thursday morning.

Forecasts issued a tornadour for a large part of Kentucky until 1 p.m. 11 et.

Tornado Watch includes more than 1 million people in cities such as Richmond, Bowling Green, Monticello and London.
