National ’50 States’ Anti-Trump-Protest scheduled for February 5: What to know

The movement 50501 – or 50 states, 50 protests, one day – collects support through social media over its plan to scene demonstrations across the country to “fight fascism” on February 5th.

Why it matters

The protests are against President Donald Trump and his actions during his first two weeks back in the White House. He has issued a flurry of executive orders that meet campaign promises such as jamming the illegal immigration and pardon of people participating in January 6, 2021, Riot at US Capitol.

Former joint chiefs of chief staff Mark Miley have called Trump a “fascist to the core,” while former Trump staff chief John Kelly said the president “definitely falls into the general definition of fascist.”

Flyers indicates that events should speak against Project 2025, Trump Administration “trying to destroy our freedoms and human rights” and “Protest after freedom of expression, racial equality, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, public health and security, gun, gun violence, climate change, wealth .

The first change allows people to gather and express their views through a protest. However, police and other government officials are allowed to place certain restrictions, including closing a protest through a spreading order if there is a danger of riots or disorder. A permit to march in the streets or sidewalks is unnecessary as long as marchers do not hinder car or pedestrian traffic.

At the same time, counter -protesters also have free expression rights.

Protests broke out across the country last weekend in response to Trump’s immigration crash, which includes mass portion and attacks targeting illegal immigrants.

Who organizes the movement 50501?

One of the moderators of the subbreddit, u/honeydoulemontold Snopes that the original idea came from another moderator, u/evolved_fungi.

Evolved_fungi’s original posts were deleted, but Snopes was delivered screenshots by U/Honeydoulemon showing that the hope was to provide a “single instruction set” and increase participation “exponentially.”

Stand-up comedian Cliff Cash also published the entire event with a YouTube video entitled “February 5th protests in each state. All 50 state capital.”

Each local protest is driven by different participants.

The movement 50501 is now collaborated with the political revolution.

What people say

Citizen Rosengarten, an organizer of the Springfield Protest, told Newsweek: “The Illinois Citizens 50501 movement has requested the permissions to meet at the Capitol grounds. We have also received significant threats of violence from Maga groups, so we meet at Capitol Grounds to guarantee that they will be limited in their efforts to harassing/ silence/ harming us.

Cristin Wormuth, who helps organize the protest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, told Newsweek: “I can see how our democracy is eroded and the basic principles of our country are challenged in a way that will harm our nation irreparable harm. No matter what political party anyone supports, all Americans must protect our constitutional rights.”

Benjamin Kirik, one of the organizers of Pennsylvania, told Newsweek: “We are as a group tired of contracts using the money they stole from us to pay for more rockets.

“Trump adopts his tariffs as a means of adopting more taxes on us without going through Congress and trying to sell to the public as nothing but a weapon to be used against those who are our friends and lie about who will pay them and who is affected.

“This is not normal or a useful strategy to get the results we want. It is from old-school that looting in the digital age. Elon Musk can’t be allowed to just constract these programs and that is our decision About to deal with them, not his.

Reddit user U/A-friendlig_guy: “It must be a self -organizing protest that is composed of the people who spread viral as an idea and at the same time attract new development leaders who pull out their comfort shell to decide necessary details for each of their specific state protests.

“Some states seem well organized, and some do not. There seem to be some 11 hours of confusion as many ask the same few questions about the time to meet, and now about doubt about its legitimacy or concern about the counter -protest.

“I am tuned to see how it goes – but I think it is a serious attempt to get something started on a national scale despite many shining holes in its planning.”

Reddit -User U/Sudsmcdiddy: “You are really worried about many of these people. I see some of them say things like, ‘It’s a peaceful protest we have a legal right to it!’ Although they openly acknowledge that the United States is very fast going full fascis (…), the alarm list in me worries me that they may be going into a huge, dangerous trap. “

Reddit User U/Cornflakegirl: “I expect infiltrators (to) causing problems that will justify a crash. I still think protests should happen, but I hope people go in prepared for pepper spray and rubber balls. “

Think. Again. On democratic underground: “I think it’s just the first of many.”
