Simon Hooper paid tribute to ‘unacceptable’ lampltey punished for brighton

Brighton Full Back Tariq Lampltey was considered “unacceptable” after his challenge at Morgan Gibbs White in Seagulls’ 7-0 defeat, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official told Football Insides That the players have “escaped” with these types of challenges in the past and praised the referee for seeing the violation.

Lamtey pulled Gibbs-white to the ground as the forest prepared for a corner, which led to a penalty for the hosts.

This came after Brighton was denied his own punishment following an incident involving Danny Welbeck and Nikola Milenkovic, but Hackett claims the decision was the “correct one.”

Hackett criticizes Tariq Lampltey for bad defense when Brighton smashed

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side threw the gulls 7-0 at City Ground in a declaration victory. They are currently in third place in the league at the level of points with Arsenal as they strengthen their push for a Champions League site.

Standout performances came from Anthony Elanga, who delivered three assists, and Chris Wood, who netted a hat trick after signing a new contract a few days before.

For Brighton, this marks their sixth loss of the season and they now have only two wins in their last 10 league matches.

The penalty awarded to Forest came when the scoring was already 4-0, enabling Wood to end his hat trick and continue his brilliant goal scoring form.

For Lamtey, it was a clumsy error from a player who has been in and out of Fabian Hurzeler’s team that made only 10 league performances this season.

He has been linked to a movement away, with Leicester City, weighing a step for the 24-year-old with only six months back on his current deal.

Still was hackett critical of the Ghanaian international for this incident and told Football Insides:

“It is frankly unacceptable defense. The judges have been far too mild in these fighting offenses.

“It is eventually good to see someone punished and a penalty.

“Players have gotten rid of these fighting offenses for so long that it has become a natural part of football. It’s rugby not football.

“Well done the judge for punishing this offense.”
