Icy roads a Vancouver Island concern, Malahat sees 35 cm of snow in 2 days

Ice is at the top of the mind of Vancouver Island roads as flurries are expected to continue and residents are awake with lingering remains of previous snow.

A low -pressure system west of Vancouver Island began to dump the seizures of heavy snow over the south coast early Sunday. A chance for flurries continues on Thursday with a height of 2 C and a low of -4. Things are expected to clear Friday with sunny sky and a high of 3 C and a low of -4 before Flurries returns this weekend.

Classes are in session in all major Victoria Public Schools and Campuss opening at Camosun College and the University of Victoria.

“Students and staff are encouraged to allow extra time when they commute, dress warmly and remain on cleared paths,” Camosun said in a statement.

Qualicum School District is open.

Since weather and road conditions may vary across the school district, we recommend parents to exercise their judgment based on their own local conditions when they make the decision to send or run their children to school.

Victoria opened her warm -up center in Cook Street Village at the start of Snow Squalls and it remained open from Tuesday night.

The city’s warm -up centers open when all other shelters are full, exposure risks are active and there are people in need with no other place to seek shelter.
