Walmart to cut jobs, move some employees to Arkansas, California Hubs

EXCLUSIVE: Walmart – the nation’s largest private employer – eliminates hundreds of roles and closes one of its North Carolina offices as it continues to withdraw workers back to its most important nodes in California and Arkansas, according to an internal memo set by Fox Business on Tuesday.

Walmart Chief People officer Donna Morris said in the memo, which was sent to employees, that the company cuts roles and asks office-based employees in Hoboken, New Jersey, and some of its smaller offices to move to the company’s newly opened headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, both Like its office in Sunnyvale, California.

“We make these changes to put together key features, encourage speed and shared understanding,” Morris said in the memo. “Through this review process, we have removed some roles when we streamline how we work.”

Walmart did not specify how many people will be affected, as the employees who are asked to move will have at least one month to inform the company if they plan to move to the most important nodes.

The decision announced on Tuesday is part of a wider moving strategy revealed in May 2024, when Walmart began the first phase of moving employees by asking staff from Dallas offices, Atlanta and Toronto to move to Walmart’s businesses Headquarters in Bentonville, its Hoboken Office or its location in California. All employees who still work externally at the time were also called back to the office.

Walmart began to demand that workers return to the office in February 2022 and said it increases collaboration, innovation and faster work processes while strengthening the corporate culture.

As business began to ditch remote work, Walmart constructed a new 350 hectare campus in Bentonville, where it opened office buildings last month. Campus has 12 office buildings together with facilities, parking tires and surface sections.

The company also opens new office space in Sunnyvale and Bellevue, Washington, while expanding his office in Hoboken and his fashion office in New York City.
