Punxsutawney Phil and Indiana’s Weather Seer Groundhog, Hope, recently predicted that there will be six weeks more in the winter, and these predictions immediately come true to the Hoosier state as it is expected to be hit with an ice storm this week.

Meteorologists with National Weather Service in Indianapolis noted that parts of northern and central Indiana will be hit by a wave of cold air on Wednesday, leading to regions of Indiana experiencing gossip and freezing rain from sunset to midnight Wednesday.

Much of the expected freezing rain and gossip are expected to hit parts of northern Indiana, specifically regions of Muncie and Lafayette, according to NW’s Indianapolis meteorologist Andrew White.

If temperatures remain on their predicted high and over freezing, meteorologists expect the Indianapolis area to be easily affected by the freezing rain, which would limit the amount of ice on the ground.

“Once we get past the Aftenrushiden, we definitely have a potential to get some freezing rain mixed with the rain,” White said.

Meteorologists warned that when temperatures have become warmer, parts of roads throughout Indiana may not be treated, which can cause roads to become smooth as they are affected by the incoming freezing rain.

When it comes to southern Indiana, meteorologists do not expect the region to be hit with freezing rain, but commuters should be careful with wet road conditions.
